Wadi El Rayan, one of Egypt’s most famous natural places, is about an hour and a half drive from Cairo. The city was named after King Rayan ibn al-Walid, whose armies were stationed there then. The nature reserve named after Fayoum is located about 75 kilometers from the city center, and the name of the city is the name of the province in which the account is located. At its deepest point, 42 meters below sea level, Wadi El Rayan is 673 km long. In 1966, an underground pipe network connected this depression to Lake Qarun, making it a water storage area. Before that, people called it “depression.”

Wadi El Rayan Reserve can be divided into seven parts. There are three geographical features in the region: Jabal Al Mudawara (or Jabal Al Mudawara in Arabic), Jabal Al Rayyan (or Jabal Al Rayyan in Arabic), and Wadi Al Hitan (or Wadi Al Hitan). Each of these places hides natural wonders that may take your breath away, such as oasis-like valleys, towering mountains, strange rock formations, and waterfalls that flow down the hill.

Wadi El Rayan Protected Area:

This region has two lakes and is the only waterfall in Egypt, located in the Wadi El Rayan region. In 1989, the area was established as a protected area so that any archaeological, geological, or cultural artifacts that may be found are safe for future generations. The reserve is located in the southwestern corner of Fayoum and covers an area of 1,759 square kilometers. Waterfalls are among the most visible in the Wadi El Rayan Reserve. By protecting this area, large areas of desert with many landscapes and rock formations have been safely preserved. In the Wadi El Rayan desert, you find some of the most beautiful and strangest plants and animals on earth, as well as the remains of long-extinct animals and cultural heritage sites of ancient civilizations.

The most beautiful thing about Wadi El Rayan is the contrast between the turquoise waters of the lake and the golden dunes. Get away from the busy city and find a quiet place among the dunes where you can let your mind wander, and your worries disappear. The dunes are an excellent place for both of those things. Every year, about 188,000 tourists visit Wadi El Rayan, many of whom will remember their time there for the rest of their lives.
