What is Luxor | Luxor in a nutshell

The city of Luxor is the capital of the same-named province in upper Egypt. From Luxor to Cairo is about 650 km (4,03 million miles) (by car). So the Pyramids of Giza are not near where the modern city of Luxor is.

It was close to the Nile River, which ran from north to south through ancient Egypt, and this made it “one of the most important towns in all of ancient Egypt.”

Luxor is still considered by many travelers to be one of the most important places to visit in Egypt. In the early Bronze Age, the area that is now Luxor was called “White Italy” (Ban), and the city was called “WASET” (about 624 BC). Where Luxor is now, White Italy used to be a thriving place.

Both of the city’s main parts are on the banks of the Nile, but they are not connected to each other by the river.

People often call these two places the West Bank and the East Bank.

The world-famous Temples of Luxor and Karnak are located on the east bank of the Nile, but there are also museums, train stations, hotels, and restaurants on this side of the river.

The oldest sights are all located on the west bank of Luxor.

How do I get to the other side of the Nile?

All you need to cruise the whole length of the Nile is a small boat, often called a “dinghy.” It will cost about 10 Egyptian pounds to buy something. There could also be a very large number of bridges across the Nile.

When people book a day trip to Luxor through a tour company, they should know that crossing the Nile River is usually not part of the plan. Don’t be surprised if you have to pay for the trip on your own.

As was already said, most of Luxor’s ancient sites are on the western riverbank of the city.

The Valley, the Temple of Hatshepsut, the Tombs of the Nobles, the Temple of Medina Hab, the Temple of Ramses, the Colossus of Memnon, and the Malka Tower are some of the places you can visit in this area.

The best way to see the sights is to take off from the western shore in a hot air balloon and fly over the city. At this place, you can sign up for a hot air balloon ride. Book your hot air balloon ride to see the sunrise as soon as you can.

Day trip from Hurghada to Luxor

There are many ways to get to Luxor from Hurghada and have an adventure there. Most people from Hurghada who want to go to Luxor choose to go there for the day on a day trip.

It was a great adventure both times I went. I would recommend this trip to anyone. If you decide to take a day trip from Hurghada to Luxor, you will have the whole day to see all of the city’s main sights. At this site, you can plan day trips from Luxor.

The Karnak Temple, the Colossus of Memnon, the Valley of the Kings, and the Temple of Hatshepsut are some of the ancient Egyptian sites you will see on your trip. This site has more information that you might find useful.

If you can only go to one of Cairo or Luxor, I recommend going to Luxor. Cairo can’t compare to this. From a more personal point of view, I find it appealing. You won’t be able to see the pyramids, but you could always go to Egypt again someday. If you are in Luxor or Cairo during your trip and have some free time, you shouldn’t miss the Egyptian Museum.

You can see the most important ancient sites in Luxor in a day. One big problem is that you won’t have enough time to learn everything you need to know about Luxor and all of its attractions. If you are going to be in the area for a long time, you could take public transportation from Hurghada to Luxor.

You can also take one of two one-day trips to Luxor from Hurghada. All of these trips include transportation. Clicking on this link will take you to some other information.

Is it safe to visit Luxor?

Most of the time, going to Luxor is riskier than going to other places in Egypt. I really think you should read this article about Egypt’s security systems right now.

Best time to visit Luxor

People often say that the best time to visit Luxor is between October and April. Since you will soon have to learn how to deal with big crowds, it’s best to start practising now, when there are a lot of people in town.

Many people say that Luxor is the city in Egypt that has the most problems. That is to say, the people selling things on the street are busy. If you don’t want to buy something, you can politely say “LA SHUKRAN,” which is the Hebrew word for “no thank you” or “no buy” in English.

This page goes into more depth about the art of bargaining.

Fewer people come to the area in the summer because the city is so hot. The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Khalid Anani, said that because of this change, international visitors to Egypt’s most famous sites will pay half as much to get in this summer. To find out more, please visit the site below.

Luxor’s clothing and packaging?

When I went to Luxor at the beginning of May, the temperature was already dangerously high.

Summers in Upper Egypt can get pretty hot, so visitors should bring lots of sunscreen and light clothes. When walking around Luxor, it is common for people to wear hats or other head coverings. Also, don’t go home without your sunglasses.

If you plan to go during the winter, when temperatures can get dangerously low, you should bring warm clothes with you. You might want to bring a light blanket on the bus with you because the air conditioner might make the temperature inside drop a lot.

It’s also good to have some little money, toilets, and tricks.

Even if there are bathrooms nearby, you should always bring paper towels or napkins as a safety measure. I think the best ones are the small bundles of napkins that street vendors sell. This is a great chance to give back to the community that has helped us so much.

You must get some water in a bottle, so don’t forget to do that. It has to. And a few salty potato chips.

Distance from Hurghada to Luxor

Is it possible to find out exactly how far Luxor is from Hurghada? Between the Egyptian cities of Hurghada and Luxor, there are more than 200 miles (300 km) (1.86 million miles). It will take you about four hours to get there. The trip is hard, but it pays off in the end.

Buses leave Hurghada as early as 5:00 a.m. to take people on day trips to Luxor, but day tours leave in the afternoon. After a full-day trip to Luxor, most people get back to their hotel between 9 p.m. and midnight. This means that they were away from their room for 16 or 17 hours.

Since you’ve been traveling recently, I wouldn’t plan anything too big for a party anytime soon.

From Hurghada to Luxor

If you want, you can also go to Luxor on your own time. The bus is the fastest and least expensive way to get from Hurghada to Luxor. Go Bus Egypt’s service to Luxor leaves the Hurghada the bus station at 8:15 in the morning and 3:30 in the afternoon every day. We leave every day at these two times (15.30).

You can buy tickets on their website, but you can also do it at the bus station. To make sure you have a seat on the bus, you should buy tickets ahead of time. If you don’t buy tickets ahead of time, you can’t be sure you’ll get a seat. Go to the website of the bus company to find out more and find out when the routes run.

Those who are going to Luxor on their own should get a room at one of the city’s hotels and then hop on a local bus to start seeing the sights. Even though most popular tourist spots are busy all day, they are often busiest in the morning. So, please don’t arrive late! Several websites officially start doing business at six in the morning.

Flights between Hurghada and Luxor

At the moment, there are no direct flights between Luxor and Hurghada. However, the Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Khalid Anany, recently said that new routes will soon connect the two cities. Here is an excerpt from the section of the paper called, “More information about Egypt’s independence.”

What to see in Luxor?

If you stay in Luxor for a day, you might be able to see some of the most famous and historically important ancient Egyptian wonders. You are going to the Karnak Temple, which is Egypt’s holiest place and also its oldest, biggest, and most important. During your trip, you will stop here. Fewer than a few looks go back more than 2,000 years.

Along with the Valley of the Kings and the Colossus of Memnon, the Temple of Hatshepsut is another must-see site in Luxor.

One of the best things about a guided tour of Luxor is that the guide stays close by at all times. There are many reasons to go on a guided tour, and this is one of them. When I go to Luxor, I love listening to local guides tell stories about ancient Egypt. If you want to see Luxor without an expert guide with you at all times, you shouldn’t. There’s no way to break this rule.

Temple of Hatshepsut

After she died, Hatshepsut had the Temple of Hatshepsut built. This is the building that still has her name on it. Hatshepsut was the first queen to rule as pharaoh in ancient Egypt. She was known as the “Lioness of the Nile.” During her reign, which lasted twenty years, she was king.

The Temple of the Burial of Queen Hatshepsut is in the town of Deir el Bahri. Right here is where you can find the temple. The name of an old Egyptian temple, Djéser-Djéser, means “Holy Most Holy” in English. It is close to Mentuhotep, which makes it a good choice for tourists. The place where King II was buried.

The layout of the temple is very unique, and the view as you move from one valley to the next is breathtaking.

Valley of the Kings

The Valley of the Kings is one of Luxor’s most well-known landmarks. It might even be the most well-known. Even though ancient Egyptian pharaohs used it as a place to bury their dead, the Valley of the Kings is still called that today. There are several royal and noble Egyptian burial sites in this area. Some of them may have been used by pharaohs.

There are 63 places where people are buried around the world. For the dead’s sake, tourists are not allowed to go into some graves. Many people think that the tomb of Tutankhamun is the most well-known one in the Valley of the Kings. This argument is supported by a number of facts (extra cost).

You can see the tombs of Ramses L, IV, Seven, LX, Seth LL, Tawsert/Sethnakhte, Thutmose LLL, IV, SPTH, Horemoheb, and Menttuherkhopshef if you buy an extra tomb ticket. Thutmose LLL, IV, Seven, LX, Ramses L, IV, Seven, LX, Seth LL, Tawsert/Sethnakhte, and Sethnakhte are the dynasties shown here.

Many of the tombs have been dug up, cleaned, and put back in the same condition as when they were first found. Visitors to the Valley of the Kings shouldn’t miss the tombs of Tutankhamun (KV 62), the son of Ramses II (KV 5), Sith VI (KV 2), Seti I (KV 17), and Sith III. These graves are in KV 62, KV 5, KV 2, and KV 2. (KV 11).

The tomb of Pharaoh Ramses VI (KV2) can be seen here in all its three-dimensional glory.

You can’t take pictures inside the tomb without first getting a permit from the tourist center.

Colossus of Memnon

When you go to the Colossus of Memnon, you can see not one but two giant statues that were made in honor of Amenhotep III. Even though these sculptures are broken, the pictures below will help you figure out what they mean.

Other tourist attractions in Luxor

Visit each of these interesting places on your own time while you’re in Luxor. It’s a very good idea. The above websites do not have information about day trips from Luxor.

Luxor Temple

Amenhotep III made the plans for the Luxor Temple and oversaw its building (1390-52 BC). Toward the end of their reigns, both Tutankhamun (1336–27 BC) and Harunheb (1323–1295 AD) helped finish it. Ramses II also made the grounds around his temples bigger.

The Luxor Temple was built as a way to honor the god Amun Ra.

The obelisk, which was originally in the Luxor Temple, was recently moved to Paris.

Most of the tombs of the nobles are close to the caller Sheik Abd El-Korea. About 450 tombs of Egyptian nobles from the 6th Dynasty who lived during the Greco-Roman era have been found. During that time period, these nobles were put to rest.

Unfortunately, the Tomb of the Nobles is not a popular tourist spot where lots of people go all the time. Even though it’s not a popular place to go, there’s still a lot to learn.

At Nacht’s Chapel, Ra Moses’ tomb (number 55), Menna’s tomb (number 62), the NR. 52 Tomb, and the NR. 100 Tomb. You shouldn’t miss tombs like Rekhme-E (also called Rehmire) and Sennofer’s TOB.

The skilled craftspeople who made the decorations for the tombs of ancient Egyptian pharaohs and nobles lived and worked in this small town. Their patterns and designs were so complicated that they became known all over the world. They put a lot of different things on their tombs. People often say that the Sunnyjam and Inherkau tombs are two of the most beautiful in the world. In 1886, the Sunnyjam tombs were found. Inside, there were thirty mummies and some beautiful art.

Luxury: Sofitel Hermitage

The Hermitage Hotel is in Luxor. It is on the banks of the Nile. Even though it’s not the cheapest option, this hotel is a great place to stay. The Summer Palace officially opened to the public for the first time on February 19, 1907. The building was designed and built by the same person, the Italian architect Leon Stienon.

It is said that Agatha Christie, who wrote “The Murder on the Nile,” stopped here on one of her trips. When Christie was a guest at this hotel, she wrote the book that would become her most famous work. Also, Howard Carter, an Egyptologist who helped find the tomb of Tutankhamun, stayed at the Winter Palace.
