The Valley Temple of Khafra is one of the sites from ancient Egypt that has been kept in the best shape. Here, pieces of different sculptures of the pharaoh have been found, which supports the idea that the pharaoh was a living representation of a god. One of these statues is the famous statue of Khafra, which shows him sitting on a lion’s throne with Horus’s falcon behind his head.
This is the statue that was made for CG 14. You can see pictures of it at the top of this article. Each of this temple’s two entrances was close to a sphinx that was eight meters tall.
Only the names and titles of the pharaoh and the names of the goddesses Bastet (at the north entrance) and Hathor (at the south entrance) are written on the walls around the building’s entrances (south entrance).
Recent excavations in front of a temple in the valley have found a place for ritual cleansing and two ramps that lead to underground tunnels that go into the valley.
Location:
At Giza, the Valley Temple is on the east side of the pyramid of Khafre.
Who built the Valley Temple? and why?
The building was ordered by King Pharaoh Khafre, who was the fourth in his dynasty. He was also in charge of building the Sphinx, the pyramid of Khafre, and the rest of the funeral complex.
This place was built just for the rituals of mummification and cleansing that had to be done before the dead person could be put on the pyramid.
